Migrant Speedboat Collision off Greek Coast Claims at Least 15 Lives
At least 15 people died Wednesday after a speedboat carrying migrants collided with a coastguard vessel off the coast of Chios, Greece, according to coastguard officials. The incident prompted a search and rescue operation in the area.
The bodies of 11 men and three women were recovered from the sea near the eastern Aegean island. A woman later died in hospital, coastguard officials said, according to Sky News. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
The incident occurred as Palestinians began returning to Khan Younis via the reopened Rafah crossing with Egypt on Tuesday, Euronews reported. However, only a few crossed as aid remained blocked and many were left stranded. One woman described long waits and exhaustion, while worrying about relatives left behind.
In other news, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was grounded after reports of a "possible defect" with a fuel control switch, Sky News reported Tuesday.
