AI Chatbot Claude to Remain Ad-Free, Unlike ChatGPT
Anthropic announced it would not introduce advertisements to its AI chatbot Claude, contrasting with OpenAI's confirmed plans to incorporate advertising into ChatGPT, according to The Verge on February 4, 2026. To emphasize this point, Anthropic planned to release a Super Bowl commercial that pokes fun at unnamed rivals adding adverts to their AI platforms.
In other tech news, Adobe reversed its decision to discontinue Adobe Animate on March 1st, according to The Verge on February 4, 2026. The company stated in an FAQ that Animate would now be in maintenance mode, with no plans to discontinue or remove access to the app. While Animate would receive ongoing security and bug fixes and remain available for new and existing users, it would not receive new features.
Meanwhile, concerns arose regarding the potential impact of a proposed Netflix-Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD) merger on subscribers. During a Senate hearing, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos suggested the merger could have the opposite effect, according to Ars Technica. Sarandos spoke at a hearing held by the US Senate Judiciary Committees Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy, and Consumer Rights, addressing the competitive impact of the proposed transaction. Sarandos suggested that users could cancel their service if the merger made it too expensive.

Reuters reported that OpenAI had been quietly seeking alternatives to Nvidia chips since last year, citing dissatisfaction with the speed of some Nvidia chips for inference tasks, according to eight sources familiar with the matter. Inference is the process by which a trained AI model generates responses to user prompts.
Outside of the tech world, Wired reported on February 4, 2026, about one user's experience using an AI matchmaker app called Three Day Rule as an alternative to Hinge. The user found the AI prompts to be repetitive and noted that the app was only available on iOS. While the app offered more in-depth prompts and shared profiles with a white-glove matchmaking service, it also had a smaller dating pool and often matched the user with people outside of their dating parameters. The user also found that the reliance on AI stifled real human conversation.
