Databricks launched its Lakebase service, a serverless database aimed at drastically reducing application development time, according to a VentureBeat report on February 3, 2026. The new service, generally available as of today, seeks to streamline the development process from months to days as companies prepare for agentic AI.
Lakebase focuses on OLTP (online transaction processing) and operational databases, a departure from Databricks' earlier focus on OLAP (online analytical processing) databases with its data lakehouse concept, which the company introduced five years ago, according to VentureBeat. Databricks developed Lakebase based on technology acquired through its acquisition of a PostgreSQL database provider, the report stated.
In other news, Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos addressed concerns about potential price increases resulting from a possible merger between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).
