Tensions Rise in Middle East as Iran and US Schedule Nuclear Talks
Tensions in the Middle East remained high as Iran and the United States scheduled nuclear talks for Friday in Oman, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday. The announcement came after indications that the anticipated talks were faltering, and some media reports that they had been cancelled over changes in the format and content of the talks. The talks occurred amidst escalating tensions following Iran's crackdown on nationwide protests last month.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed his support for renewed US-Iran talks, emphasizing the need to avoid an "all-out war" in the Middle East. "I want to emphasise that the question of war and peace is in the hands of the government and solely of the government," Salam told Euronews' EU editor Maria Tadeo at the World Governments Summit.
In other news, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an interview with French public broadcaster France 2 on Wednesday, addressed the human cost of the war with Russia. Zelenskyy stated that, officially, 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed on the battlefield since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.

In Bulgaria, prosecutors launched a criminal investigation into the secret filming of women in beauty salons. The victims, some as young as 15, were filmed during intimate cosmetic procedures, with the footage distributed on pornographic websites without their consent. The recordings, some dating back to 2023, included public figures such as a judge, a prosecutor, journalists, daughters of a regional governor and a police officer.
