Search Continues for Nancy Guthrie, No Suspect Identified
Authorities continued their search for Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, and had not identified a suspect or person of interest in the Arizona case as of Wednesday, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department. The department stated on social media that detectives were speaking with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie, who was reported missing Sunday.
Investigators believe Guthrie was taken from her Tucson, Arizona, home over the weekend. A law enforcement source familiar with the case told CBS News that a small amount of blood found inside the home was being tested. "Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family," the sheriff's department said in its statement.
The disappearance has deeply affected the Tucson community. Sally Shamrell, a family friend and former reporter for KVOA, a local television station where Savannah Guthrie worked in the 1990s, described the situation as "absolutely heart-wrenching." Shamrell told CBS News that the Guthries are a "very revered family" in Tucson, adding, "Nancy and Savannah have both contributed so much to the Tucson community... They're just positive contributors and very faithful women. What's going on is absolutely heart-wrenching." A candlelight service was held Wednesday night in Tucson to pray for Nancy Guthrie's safe return. The case is being investigated as a crime.
