Search Continues for Savannah Guthrie's Mother, Nancy Guthrie, in Arizona
Authorities continued their search for Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, who was reported missing in Tucson, Arizona, on Sunday. The Pima County Sheriff's Department stated Wednesday that no suspect or person of interest had been identified in the case, which is being investigated as a crime, according to CBS News.
Detectives were actively speaking with individuals who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie, the sheriff's department said in a statement. Authorities believe Guthrie was taken from her home over the weekend. A small amount of blood found inside the residence was undergoing testing, a law enforcement source familiar with the case told CBS News. Detectives were working closely with the Guthrie family, according to the sheriff's department.
The Tucson community held a candlelight service Wednesday night to pray for Nancy Guthrie's safe return. Sally Shamrell, a family friend and former reporter for KVOA, a local television station where Savannah Guthrie worked in the 1990s, described the disappearance as "absolutely heart-wrenching." Shamrell told CBS News that the Guthries are a "very revered family" in Tucson and that she has known them for over 30 years. "Nancy and Savannah have both contributed so much to the Tucson community," Shamrell said. "... They're just positive contributors and very faithful women. What's going on is absolutely heart-wrenching."
