Multiple Arrests Made in Shooting of Indiana Judge and Wife
A sixth person was arrested Wednesday in connection with the January shooting of an Indiana judge and his wife in their Lafayette home, according to local officials. Nevaeh Bell, 23, was taken into custody and faces 12 preliminary felony charges, including two counts of attempted murder and a count of conspiracy to commit murder, the Lafayette Police Department reported.
The shooting occurred on Jan. 18 and wounded Tippecanoe County Superior Court Judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kim. Five other individuals were arrested last month in connection with the incident following what the Lafayette Police Department described as "a coordinated, multi-state operation involving hundreds of investigative hours." Those arrested were identified as 38-year-old Raylen Ferguson and 61-year-old Zenada Greer of Kentucky, as well as Indiana residents India Gholston, 20, D'andre Guest, 18, and Dominick McNear, 18.
Firefighters Battle Hospital Blaze in Pennsylvania
Crews battled a fire at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Dickson City, Pennsylvania, Wednesday night into early Thursday. According to Lackawanna County Emergency Management Agency, 77 patients were evacuated to other area hospitals, including six ICU patients. One firefighter was taken to another hospital with chest pains. The Dickson City Fire Department said the fire was contained to an outpatient orthopedic area on the roof of the original building, formerly known as Scranton Orthopedics, which was attached to a newly built section of Lehigh Valley Hospital. Police Helicopter Crashes in Arizona
An Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter crashed Wednesday night near the scene of an "active officer-involved shooting investigation" in Flagstaff, Arizona, according to police in Page, Arizona. The suspect in the shooting was apprehended. Investigators reported that no officers were injured in the shooting, CBS Phoenix affiliate KPHO-TV reported. The number of people on board the helicopter and their condition were not immediately known. Area resident Amanda Brewer told KPHO-TV she heard three gunshots followed by two more at approximately 8:40 p.m. local time, prompting her to call 911. She said officers arrived within minutes, after which she heard between 15 and 20 gunshots. Brewer also reported hearing the helicopter overhead.
