US Launches Plan to Counter China's Dominance of Critical Mineral Supply
The United States has initiated a plan to establish a trade zone for critical minerals, essential for manufacturing products ranging from smartphones to weapons, in an effort to challenge China's dominance in the industry, according to the BBC. The State Department hosted the first Critical Minerals Ministerial event on Wednesday, attended by representatives from countries and organizations including the UK, European Union, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Delegates at the ministerial discussed the availability of and access to minerals crucial for manufacturing computers and other technologies, according to the BBC. The initiative aims to diversify the supply chain and reduce reliance on China for these vital resources.
In other news, Ryan Routh was sentenced to life in prison for attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump in September 2024 at a Florida golf course, the BBC reported.
