FBI Investigates Abduction of Savannah Guthrie's Mother, Offers $50,000 Reward
The FBI is jointly investigating the suspected abduction of Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, from her Arizona home early Sunday. Authorities have not yet identified a person of interest in the case and are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to her recovery or the arrest of anyone involved, according to officials during a joint briefing with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI on Thursday.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said, "Right now, we believe Nancy is still out there. We want her home." The urgent search for Nancy Guthrie has entered its fifth day.
The FBI also announced an arrest in connection with what they called an "imposter" ransom demand. Details about the individual arrested and the nature of the demand were not immediately released.
Former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker analyzed the FBI's strategy for validating ransom demands, noting urgency due to Nancy's medical needs. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie's whereabouts to contact the FBI or the Pima County Sheriff's Department immediately.
