Trump Administration Launches TrumpRx Website for Discounted Prescription Drugs
The Trump administration launched TrumpRx, a website designed to offer Americans lower-priced prescription drugs, on Thursday night. The unveiling occurred at a White House event, with President Trump joined by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz and National Design Studio Director Joe Gebbia, according to ABC News.
The website lists dozens of prescription drugs at reduced rates, CBS News reported. For example, a four-week supply of Wegovy injection pens is listed at $199 for the first two months and $349 after that, well below the list price of $1,349.02. President Trump struck deals last year with more than a dozen drugmakers to list some of their medication on TrumpRx at steep discounts from list prices, with megacompanies like Pfizer and Novo Nordisk known for weight loss and diabetes drugs Ozempic and Wegovy signing on, according to CBS News.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called TrumpRx "a state-of-the-art website for American consumers to purchase low-cost prescription drugs," ABC News reported. She added that the "historic announcement will save millions."
The site does not sell drugs directly; instead, users are prompted to print out a gold-embossed coupon that it says can be used at pharmacies, according to CBS News.
The launch comes as polls show that most Americans are concerned about health care costs, ABC News reported.
