Search Intensifies for Savannah Guthrie's Mother, FBI Offers $50,000 Reward
The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, intensified Thursday as authorities continued their investigation into her disappearance from Arizona. The FBI announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie's recovery or the arrest and conviction of those involved in her disappearance, according to CBS News. Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday after she did not attend church.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated on Thursday that investigators believe Nancy Guthrie is "still out there" and emphasized the desire to bring her home, CBS News reported. The Guthrie family issued a video message directed at potential kidnappers, urging them to make contact and provide proof of Nancy Guthrie's well-being, ABC News stated. "Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you," Camron Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie's brother, said in the video message. "We haven't heard anything directly. We need you to reach out and we need a way to communicate with you so we can."
According to CBS News, a ransom note was received by investigators, who are taking it seriously. The note included a deadline of 5 p.m. Thursday, though the time zone was not specified, according to Heith Janke, the special agent in charge of the FBI's field office in Phoenix. Janke said that if a transfer wasn't made, he believed a second demand would be made.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Saturday night when she visited her daughter Annie's home, CBS News reported. She arrived at 5:32 p.m., had dinner, and was dropped off at her own home at 7:45 p.m. President Trump has directed all federal law enforcement to be at the family's "complete disposal," CBS News stated. The search for Nancy Guthrie is ongoing, with the FBI now jointly investigating the case.
