AWS Revenue Soars as Cloud Demand Remains High; AI Developments Across Multiple Industries
Amazon Web Services (AWS) concluded 2025 with its most robust quarterly growth in over three years, reporting $35.6 billion in revenue for the fourth quarter, a 24% year-over-year increase. This surge, the business segment's largest growth rate in 13 quarters, highlights the continued demand for cloud services. Simultaneously, advancements in artificial intelligence are making waves across various sectors, from healthcare to app development and search, according to reports from TechCrunch.
The cloud service also saw an increase in its operating income, reaching $12.5 billion in the fourth quarter, up from $10.6 billion in the same period in 2024. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy noted the significance of this growth, stating, "Its very different having 24 year-over-year growth on 142 billion annualized run rate than to have a higher percentage growth on a meaningfully smaller base, which is the case with our competitors." The annual revenue run rate for the business segment is $142 billion, according to Amazon.
In the realm of AI, Insilico Medicine is aiming to develop pharmaceutical superintelligence to address the labor issue in treating rare diseases. According to executives from Insilico Medicine and GenEditBio, the industry has lacked enough skilled professionals. Insilico recently launched its MMAI Gym, designed to train large language models like ChatGPT and Gemini to perform as well as specialist models. Insilico CEO and founder Alex Aliper stated the goal is to build a multi-modal, multi-task model that can solve many different drug discovery problems.
Spotify is also adapting to the evolving landscape, modifying its Developer Mode API. The changes include a mandatory premium account, a reduction in the number of test users to five per app, and a limited number of API endpoints. These adjustments, according to Spotify, are aimed at curbing risky AI-aided or automated usage.
Meanwhile, Sapiom, a San Francisco startup, raised $15 million to assist AI agents in acquiring their own tech tools. Ilan Zerbib, the founder, is developing a solution to eliminate back-end infrastructure headaches for nontechnical creators.
Reddit is also eyeing AI as a major opportunity, particularly in search. The company suggested its AI-powered search engine could be a significant revenue driver. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman stated, "Theres a type of query were, I think, particularly good at I would argue, the best on the internet which is questions that have no answers, where the answer actually is multiple perspectives from lots of people." The company plans to merge traditional and AI search, though monetization is not yet implemented.
