The roughly one-minute-long video, shared late Thursday night, focused on debunked claims about the 2020 election. At the end of the video, the Obamas' faces abruptly appeared for several seconds with the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" playing. A White House official stated that a staffer "erroneously made the post."
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt initially dismissed the criticism as "fake outrage," according to ABC News. However, the post was removed after the criticism mounted. The video was described as "racist," "offensive," and "unacceptable" by critics.
