MrBeast's Beast Industries acquired the financial app Step, designed for young adults, while OpenAI announced plans to introduce ads to its ChatGPT platform, according to reports from The Verge. These developments, alongside Toyota's creation of a game engine and Ayaneo's unveiling of a hefty Windows gaming handheld, mark significant shifts in the tech landscape.
Beast Industries, owned by YouTuber Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson, announced the acquisition of Step on Monday. The move comes shortly after Donaldson revealed plans for a new YouTube channel focused on personal finance and investing, as reported by The Verge. Donaldson's main channel boasts 466 million subscribers.
In other tech news, OpenAI will begin testing ads on its ChatGPT platform. Users will see "sponsored links" at the bottom of ChatGPT answers unless they subscribe to the Plus plan, which costs at least $20 per month, The Verge reported.
Toyota also entered the gaming world by creating Fluorite, a console-grade graphics engine. The engine is designed to perform well on embedded hardware, such as the chips in cars. According to Jay Peters of The Verge, the engine could be used in digital cockpits for 3D tutorials and more natural controls.
Meanwhile, Ayaneo unveiled its Next II Windows gaming handheld, which weighs 3.14 pounds and measures 13.45 inches wide, as reported by Ars Technica. This makes it significantly larger than other handhelds on the market.
