Canada School Shooting, Missing Woman's Case Develop

A person of interest has been detained and a home is being searched in connection with the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, according to law enforcement officials. The Pima County Sheriff's Department in Arizona detained the individual during a traffic stop south of Tucson, and a court-authorized search is underway at a residence in Rio Rico, Arizona, about 12 miles from the Mexican border, as reported by CBS News.

Guthrie, 84, has been missing since February 1, when authorities believe she was abducted from her Tucson home in the middle of the night. The FBI released images and video of a masked figure earlier Tuesday, according to ABC News. The individual is being questioned, and the search is being conducted by local and federal authorities, CBS News reported.

In other news, at least nine people were killed and dozens injured in shootings at a high school and a residence in British Columbia, Canada, on Tuesday. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that the suspected shooter is also dead, believed to have died from a self-inflicted injury. The school shooting occurred at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, where officers found six people dead inside, and a seventh died while being transported to a hospital, according to the RCMP. Two additional victims were found dead at a residence linked to the school shooting.

In a separate development, President Trump threatened to block the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge between Detroit and Canada. In a post on Truth Social, Mr. Trump stated he would block the bridge's opening "until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given them." He also criticized Canada's trade practices, including tariffs on U.S. dairy products, and claimed Prime Minister Mark Carney is attempting to make a deal with China, CBS News reported.
