A decades-old cold case and a high-profile kidnapping are set to be the focus of true crime coverage this weekend. "48 Hours" will air a new episode Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 10/9c on CBS and streaming on Paramount, delving into the 1969 murder of Mary Kay Heese in Wahoo, Nebraska. Simultaneously, the search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, continues after her apparent kidnapping from her Tucson, Arizona, home on February 1.
The "48 Hours" episode, titled "The Girl from Wahoo," will examine the unsolved murder of 17-year-old Mary Kay Heese, who was found beaten and stabbed to death on the side of a road outside of Wahoo on March 25, 1969, after she never returned home from school. The case, which remained unsolved for decades, will be brought back into focus by "48 Hours" correspondent Natalie Morales. According to Jennifer Joakim, Saunders County attorney, and Richard Register, deputy county attorney, the case is believed to be the longest unsolved cold case in Nebraska history. "Mary Kay Heese's unsolved murder hung over this community for five decades. It needed to be resolved," Register stated. Joakim added that the murder "is where the community lost its innocence."
Meanwhile, the FBI is intensifying its search for Nancy Guthrie, who was reportedly kidnapped on February 1. The FBI released photos and videos of an armed person in a mask tampering with a security camera in front of her home. FBI Director Kash Patel released a surveillance photo on February 10, 2026, showing a potential subject in the investigation.
"48 Hours" airs Saturdays starting at 10/9c on CBS and streams on Paramount. Full episodes are also available on Pluto TV, YouTube, and Netflix, as well as on the "48 Hours" FAST Channel. The CBS News app also provides access to the show.
