A referee and a student are among hundreds reportedly killed in Iran during two weeks of anti-government protests. Coach Amir Mohammad Koohkan, 26, a referee, died on January 3 in Neyriz after being shot with live ammunition. Student Rubina Aminian, 23, was shot on January 8 in Tehran.
The protests began December 28 over economic grievances. A US-based rights group reports nearly 500 protesters and 48 security personnel have died. Sources inside Iran suggest the death toll may be higher.
Mourners chanted "death to Khamenei" at funerals. Koohkan's friend told BBC Persian his family is grieving and angry. Aminian's uncle told CNN she fought for what she believed in.
The demonstrations started due to economic issues. They quickly evolved into broader protests against the Iranian government.
The situation remains tense. Further protests and government response are expected.
