NASA's Artemis II mission is one step closer to launch. The Space Launch System rocket will roll out Saturday morning. It will emerge from Kennedy Space Center's Vehicle Assembly Building around 7:00 am EST.
The massive rocket will travel to Launch Complex 39B. The journey will take eight to ten hours. NASA's crawler transporter will carry the rocket.
Artemis II marks a major milestone. It is the first human voyage to the Moon's vicinity since 1972. The mission will send four astronauts around the far side of the Moon. This sets a new record for human space travel distance.
The Artemis program aims to return humans to the Moon. It builds upon the legacy of the Apollo missions. Future missions plan to establish a long-term lunar presence.
Engineers will conduct final checks at the launch pad. Launch is scheduled for later this year. NASA managers are on alert for "launch fever" as pressure builds.
