Italian Fashion Designer Valentino Dies at 93

Valentino Garavani, the Italian fashion designer known simply as Valentino, died Monday at his home in Rome at the age of 93. His death was announced by the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation on Instagram.

Valentino co-founded the Valentino fashion house in 1960 and rose to become one of the giants of 20th-century fashion, alongside Giorgio Armani and Karl Lagerfeld. Vogue dubbed him an "international arbiter of taste," and his designs were worn by celebrities, well-known figures, and notable women at significant events.

Throughout his career, Valentino dressed figures such as Elizabeth Taylor, Nancy Reagan, Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts, Audrey Hepburn, and Jackie Onassis. His creations graced red carpets, weddings, and even funerals, according to NPR.

The Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation said in its Instagram statement that he "passed away peacefully in his Roman home, surrounded [by loved ones]."
