Blue Origin, the rocket company founded by Amazon's Jeff Bezos, announced plans to launch over 5,400 satellites to create a new communications network called TeraWave, directly challenging Elon Musk's Starlink, according to multiple news sources. The company aims to provide continuous, high-speed internet access to businesses and governments worldwide by the end of 2027.
TeraWave intends to move large amounts of data more quickly than rival services, according to Blue Origin. While boasting potentially faster speeds, TeraWave will still have fewer satellites in orbit than Starlink, which currently dominates the satellite internet market.
Starlink, part of Musk's rocket firm SpaceX, offers internet and phone services to individual customers. Blue Origin stated that TeraWave will focus on data services, while Amazon's Project Kuiper will also compete in the satellite internet arena, focusing on individual customers.
