Minneapolis Reels After Second Fatal Shooting by Federal Agents This Month
Minneapolis is grappling with heightened tensions following the second fatal shooting of a U.S. citizen by federal agents this month. Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, was shot and killed Saturday morning, sparking clashes between protesters and law enforcement, according to ABC News.
The incident follows the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother, on Jan. 7, ABC News reported. These shootings have ignited public outcry and prompted scrutiny of federal agent protocols.
Stephen Miller stated that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) "may not have been following" protocol leading up to the shooting, according to ABC News live updates. The administration is reportedly grappling with the fallout from the Minneapolis shooting.
In related news, Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar was sprayed with an unknown liquid at a town hall in Minneapolis on Tuesday. According to CBS News, the alleged perpetrator, identified by local police as 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak, was immediately apprehended and booked into Hennepin County Jail for third-degree assault. Police stated that Omar was not injured.
CBS News reported that Omar, a Democrat, was calling for the abolishment of ICE and for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign when Kazmierczak allegedly rushed up to her and sprayed her with a substance. Despite the incident, Omar vowed not to be intimidated and declined to immediately leave the event to get checked out, CBS News noted.
