OpenAI has unveiled Prism, a new AI-powered tool designed to assist scientists in writing scientific papers. The tool, which embeds ChatGPT in a text editor, is part of OpenAI's "OpenAI for Science" initiative.
According to Kevin Weil, head of OpenAI for Science, Prism aims to integrate AI into scientific writing workflows, similar to how chatbots have been incorporated into programming editors. Weil stated at a press briefing, "I think 2026 will be for AI and science what 2025 was for AI in software engineering. We’re starting to see that same kind of inflection." OpenAI estimates that around 1.3 million scientists worldwide submit over 8 million queries.
