Minneapolis Family Reunites After Detention; SNL Parodies ICE
Minneapolis – A five-year-old boy and his father, asylum seekers who were detained by federal agents last week, were reunited with family in Minneapolis on Sunday after a judge ordered their release, according to ABC News. Liam Conejo Ramos and his father, Adrian Conejo Arias, arrived in Minneapolis after being held in a Texas detention facility.
"I'm happy to finally be going home," Conejo Arias, originally from Ecuador, told ABC News' John Quiñones in an exclusive interview as the pair flew from San Antonio back to Minneapolis. He added, "Liam is very happy to be going back. He's going to see his mom and his brother again."
The detention and subsequent release of the Conejo Ramos family coincided with renewed scrutiny of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) targeted ICE in its cold-open skit on Saturday, depicting Tom Homan, played by Pete Davidson, convening with ICE agents about Minneapolis, Fox News reported.
In the skit, Davidson, as Homan, addressed the agents, saying, "My name is Tom Homan. Now, I'm sure a lot of you are wondering why Greg Bovino, the last guy, was dismissed. I want to stress that it wasn't because he did a bad job, or publicly lied about the shooting of an American citizen, or even uh-oh! dressed like a Nazi. It was that..." The skit satirized the agency's actions and leadership.
