Search Intensifies for Nancy Guthrie as Ransom Note Details Emerge
The search for Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, intensified this week as authorities investigated her disappearance from her Tucson, Arizona, home, which they suspect may be an abduction. TMZ founder Harvey Levin revealed on Fox News Thursday night that his newsroom received a purported ransom note related to Guthrie's disappearance.
According to Levin, the ransom note appeared "structured" and contained two deadlines. The first deadline, which altered the demand, has already passed, while a second, "far more consequential" deadline expired Monday, Fox News reported. The details of the demands were not disclosed.
Camron Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie's brother, issued a public plea on Thursday, urging whoever is holding their mother to make contact. "Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you," Camron Guthrie said in a video shared to Savannah Guthrie's Instagram account, according to CBS News. "We haven't heard anything directly. We need you to reach out, and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward," he continued. "But first, we have to know that you have our mom. We want to talk to you, and we are waiting for contact." The video was released around 5 p.m. local time, which was the initial deadline given in the ransom note, FBI Spe.
Guthrie has been missing since early Sunday morning, and Friday marked the sixth day of the investigation, Fox News reported. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to determine her whereabouts.
