Search Intensifies for Savannah Guthrie's Mother; FBI Offers $50,000 Reward
The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, intensified Thursday as authorities continued their investigation into her disappearance from Arizona. The FBI announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie's recovery or the arrest and conviction of those involved in her disappearance, according to CBS News.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday after she did not show up for church, CBS News reported. She was last seen Saturday night at her daughter Annie's home, where she had dinner and was dropped off at her own residence around 7:30 p.m., according to authorities.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated Thursday that investigators believe Nancy Guthrie is "still out there" and emphasized the desire to bring her home, CBS News reported.
The Guthrie family issued a video message directed at the potential kidnappers, urging them to make contact and provide proof that they have Nancy Guthrie, ABC News reported. "Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you," said Camron Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie's brother, in the video message, according to ABC News. "We haven't heard anything directly. We need you to reach out and we need a way to communicate with you so we can figure out how to get her back."
Investigators are taking a ransom note seriously, which included a deadline of 5 p.m. Thursday, although the time zone was not specified, according to Heith Janke, the special agent in charge of the FBI's field office in Phoenix, CBS News reported.
President Trump has directed all federal law enforcement to be at the family's "complete disposal," CBS News reported. The search for Nancy Guthrie is ongoing.
