FBI Releases Images, Video in Search for Missing Mother of Savannah Guthrie
TUCSON, ARIZONA - The FBI released images and video Tuesday of a masked individual at the home of Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, as the search for the 84-year-old entered its second week. The footage, released by FBI Director Kash Patel, shows the person approaching Guthrie's front door and appearing to tamper with a security camera. Authorities believe Guthrie was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home on February 1st.
The images and videos, posted to social media by the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff's Department, depict a person wearing a mask, gloves, and a backpack on Guthrie's porch. One 27-second video shows the individual approaching the front door and raising a gloved hand to a home security camera before walking away. A 14-second video shows the person facing the camera. According to law enforcement sources, FBI Director Patel was at the law enforcement command post for the Guthrie investigation in Arizona on Monday.
Savannah Guthrie has directly appealed for her mother's safe return. "We believe she is still alive. Bring her home," she responded to the release of the images. The FBI is taking seriously two emails, including what appears to be a ransom note with a second deadline set for later on Monday, according to CBS News.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Saturday night, January 31st. She was reported missing on Sunday, February 1st, after failing to attend church. The sheriff has stated that it appears she was abducted from her home.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify a possible suspect or suspects and determine a motive for the disappearance.
