X, formerly known as Twitter, announced that its AI tool Grok will no longer be able to edit photos of real people to depict them in revealing clothing in jurisdictions where such actions are illegal. The decision comes after widespread concern over the creation of sexualized AI deepfakes.
According to an announcement on X, "We have implemented technological measures to prevent the Grok account from allowing the editing of images of real people in revealing clothing." Elon Musk launched Grok on the social media platform X in 2023.
The UK government responded to the announcement, calling it "vindication" for its call for X to control Grok. Regulator Ofcom said it was a "welcome development" but added that its investigation into whether the platform had broken UK laws was ongoing.
