Cuba Pays Tribute to Soldiers Killed in U.S. Attack on Venezuela
Havana, Cuba – Cuba mourned the loss of 32 soldiers killed during a United States military operation in Venezuela earlier this month that resulted in the abduction of President Nicolas Maduro. The remains of the soldiers, members of Cuba's armed forces and intelligence agencies, arrived at Havana's international airport early Thursday, according to Al Jazeera.
The soldiers' coffins, draped in the Cuban flag, were displayed at the armed forces ministry in Havana on January 15, 2026, where a tribute was held, Al Jazeera reported. The event underscored Cuba's continued support for its ideological ally, Venezuela, amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions with the United States.
The U.S. military operation and the subsequent abduction of President Maduro have further strained the already complex relationship between Cuba, Venezuela, and the U.S., reflecting a history of interventionism and ideological clashes in the region, according to Al Jazeera.
