Minnesota Sues Federal Government Over ICE Operation Following Resident's Death
Minnesota and its Twin Cities local governments sued the U.S. government and several officials this week to halt Operation Metro Surge, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) initiative that has resulted in over 2,400 arrests since late 2025, according to multiple sources. The lawsuit was filed in response to the death of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen who was shot and killed by an ICE agent last week.
The legal challenge raises concerns about compliance with regulations, potential inconsistencies in testimony, and fundraising activities related to the incident, according to Wired. Protests have erupted in response to the operation and Good's death.
According to a contract justification published in a federal register on Tuesday and reported by Wired, 31 ICE vehicles currently operating in Minnesota lack the necessary emergency lights and sirens to be compliant with regulations. The lawsuit seeks to immediately suspend Operation Metro Surge.
