The Jones Hovercraft 2.0 snowboard, designed for off-piste adventures, has received high praise for its performance in powder, steeps, and trees. According to Wired, the board offers "unbelievable float" and nimble turning in powder, while also performing well on steep slopes and in wooded areas.
The Hovercraft 2.0 is considered an alternative directional freeride board, optimized for off-piste conditions, but also capable on groomed runs and steep terrain. The original Hovercraft was first released in 2010.
One reviewer recounted a personal experience using a prototype of the Hovercraft 2.0 during a heli-skiing trip in Whistler, British Columbia. Faced with the choice between a trusted powder board and the untested prototype, the reviewer chose to use the Jones board. "Not only was it incredible for that heli day," the reviewer stated, "I didn’t stop riding it for two years straight. I can’t believe how good this board is."
However, the board's design also presents some drawbacks. Its wider profile requires more effort to initiate turns, and it lacks significant pop for jumps or buttering. The directional shape also limits switch riding.
Despite these limitations, the Hovercraft 2.0 is lauded for its sustainability and its ability to handle drops and jumps in powder. Its directional design caters specifically to freeride enthusiasts who prioritize off-piste performance.
