Europe Stands United Against Trump's Greenland Threats, Danish PM Says
Copenhagen – Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen declared that "Europe won't be blackmailed" in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's threats of imposing tariffs on European allies if they oppose his proposed takeover of Greenland. Frederiksen's statement came as European leaders collectively weighed their response to Trump's stance on the autonomous Danish territory.
According to reports, Trump threatened to impose new taxes in February on eight U.S. allies – Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the UK – should they resist his efforts to acquire Greenland. He has maintained that Greenland is critical for U.S. security and has not dismissed the possibility of acquiring it by force. This stance has drawn widespread criticism.
