A large Russian aerial strike left Ukraine's parliament and half of Kyiv's residential buildings without heating or power. The strikes occurred overnight as temperatures hovered around -10C. President Zelensky stated one million people in the capital are without power.
Drones, ballistic, and cruise missiles targeted Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odesa. Air raid alerts sounded throughout the night in Kyiv. Zelensky reported a "significant number" of targets were intercepted.
Between Monday and Tuesday, strikes across Ukraine killed at least four and injured 33. Zelensky said repelling Monday night's attack cost Ukraine about 80m in air defense missiles alone. More than 5,600 residential buildings were affected on Tuesday morning.
Russia has increasingly targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure in recent months. These strikes are part of a broader conflict that began in February 2022.
Further attacks are anticipated. The Ukrainian government is working to restore power and heating. International aid is expected to assist in recovery efforts.
