NASA's Artemis II mission is one step closer to launch. The Space Launch System rocket will roll out Saturday from Kennedy Space Center. The rollout begins at 7:00 am EST (11:00 UTC).
The massive rocket will travel atop a crawler-transporter. The journey from the Vehicle Assembly Building to Launch Complex 39B will take 8-10 hours. This marks a key milestone for Artemis II.
Artemis II is the first crewed lunar mission since Apollo 17. The four astronauts will orbit the Moon, not land. This flight will break the record for human distance from Earth.
The Artemis program aims to establish a long-term presence on the Moon. This mission is a critical test for future lunar landings.
Next, teams will conduct final checks at the launch pad. A launch date will be set after these tests are complete.
