European Leaders Condemn Trump's Tariff Threat Over Greenland
European leaders voiced strong disapproval of a threat by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on eight allied nations opposed to his potential acquisition of Greenland. The proposed tariffs, aimed at Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland, drew criticism from prominent figures, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to reports, Trump announced a 10% tariff on goods from the aforementioned countries, set to take effect on February 1st. The tariff could potentially rise to 25% and would remain in place until a deal was reached.
Prime Minister Starmer described the move as "completely wrong," while President Macron deemed it "unacceptable." The announcement followed protests in Greenland against any potential U.S. acquisition of the territory.
