A fire at a shopping mall in Karachi, Pakistan, killed six people on Saturday. The blaze engulfed the Gul Plaza, a multi-story building housing 1,200 stores. One firefighter is among the dead.
The fire started on the ground floor and quickly spread to the upper levels. Emergency services arrived to find the building already largely engulfed in flames. Parts of the structure collapsed, hindering rescue efforts.
More than 20 people were injured. Over 30 people are reported missing. Families gathered outside the mall awaiting news. City administrators established a desk to register missing persons.
The Gul Plaza spans 8,000 square meters. Authorities have been unable to search the building due to the ongoing fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Firefighters continue to battle the blaze.
