Bungie's revival of the "Marathon" first-person shooter franchise is set to launch on March 5 for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, according to a PlayStation Blog post. The release date follows an initial delay after a reportedly poor response to the game's first alpha test, pushing it back from its originally announced release date of September 23, 2025.
The new "Marathon" marks a departure from the original single-player focused games, adopting a PvPvE survival extraction shooter format. Unlike Bungie's free-to-play title "Destiny," this iteration will be available for a $40 standard edition price point, according to Ars Technica.
It has been nearly three years since Bungie, now a Sony subsidiary, formally announced the revival of the "Marathon" franchise. The March 5 release date narrows down the month-long March release window announced in December.
