Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin announced plans to launch over 5,400 satellites by the end of 2027 to create a new communications network called TeraWave, directly challenging Elon Musk's Starlink in the satellite internet market. The network aims to provide high-speed internet access to businesses and governments globally.
Blue Origin stated that TeraWave would offer continuous internet access around the world and the ability to move large amounts of data much more quickly than rival services. While TeraWave boasts potentially faster speeds, it will have fewer satellites in orbit than Starlink, which currently dominates the satellite internet market.
Starlink, part of Musk's rocket firm SpaceX, offers internet and phone services to individual customers. Blue Origin stated that TeraWave will be focused on data services. Amazon's Project Kuiper will also compete in the satellite internet arena, focusing on individual customers.
