Trump Withdraws Canada's Invitation to Join "Board of Peace"
Washington, D.C. - U.S. President Donald Trump rescinded Canada's invitation to join the newly formed "Board of Peace," marking the latest dispute between the North American neighbors. The withdrawal followed Prime Minister Mark Carney's recent warnings of a potential "rupture" in the U.S.-led global order and Canada's refusal to pay the $1 billion membership fee.
Trump announced the decision on Truth Social in a post addressed to Carney. "Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada's joining," Trump stated.
While Trump did not explicitly state the reason for revoking the invitation, the move came after Canada indicated its willingness to participate in the board without paying the required fee. According to BBC World, the U.S. envisions the "Board of Peace" as an international organization focused on conflict resolution. Trump is expected to serve as chairman, wielding significant decision-making authority within the board.
European leaders, led by EU chief Antonio Costa, have also expressed reservations about the scope of the "Board of Peace." Despite these doubts, European leaders remain open to potential collaboration, particularly in addressing the conflict in Gaza, according to BBC World.
