Canadian Olympic Snowboarder Arrested in Mexico on Drug Trafficking Charges
Ryan Wedding, a former Canadian Olympic snowboarder, was arrested in Mexico after turning himself in at the U.S. consulate in Mexico City, according to law enforcement officials. Wedding, 44, was wanted by the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for allegedly leading a transnational drug trafficking operation. He is scheduled to appear in court in California on Monday.
Wedding was among the FBI's top fugitives and faces charges related to multinational drug trafficking and the killing of a federal witness, according to the Justice Department. The U.S. Attorney General, Pam Bondi, had previously described Wedding's alleged operation as one.
The Mexican security minister stated that Wedding surrendered voluntarily. An image displayed during an October 2024 news conference at the FBI offices in Los Angeles showed Wedding alongside bricks of cocaine, according to The Associated Press.
